Thoughts on Google Chrome

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

So SkyNet went one step closer to going online today. Google have released their new web browser – Google Chrome. I downloaded it about an hour or so ago and must say, so far i’m quite impressed. Numerous features instantly jumped out at me.

They’ve moved the browser tabs to the very top – above the address bar, right to the top. As soon as I saw this I wondered why nobody had done this before, they just make so much more sense there! Also, when I right-click a link in a tab and open in a new tab, it no longer goes straight to the end of my tab list, but instead drops right in next to my current tab!

I see it being a while before it replaces Firefox for me day-to-day, no real developer addons that I can see yet (Firebug for instance). Maybe Mozilla will start implementing all of these new features into Firefox?

Here’s a link to a more detailed examination of some of the new usbability features.

Who’s making money on the web?

“While failure for the high-tech entrepreneur is less likely to result in death, the parallels between the Gold Rush and the current Web-based economy are many. In both cases, participants must to adapt to a new way of life, with new rules. Or rather, no pre-existing, fixed rules.”
